Chicago, USA: A complete containerized, “plug & play” biological wastewater treatment solution is being launched next week at WEFTEC Chicago, October 2-4. Known as the BioGill Ultra, this unit is designed for applications in distributed sewage, and food and beverage production, making it easier to treat wastewater onsite.

Announcing the new product release, Mr John West, Executive Chairman at BioGill, said, “True product innovation comes from responding to a real need in the marketplace and the Ultra delivers with a highly effective biological treatment solution that is also quick to install, simple to operate and easy to maintain.”

Driving the development of the Ultra was the need from customers to operate and maintain their own wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) onsite, to better manage and control operating costs. The BioGill Ultra has several options that make this possible including an automated air scouring maintenance system, control skid and remote monitoring.

At the core of the Ultra is a series of treatment cartridges containing patented nano ceramic media, known as “gills”. One side of the gill is in contact with the high nutrient wastewater stream, while the other is exposed to an abundant air supply. The gills create the ideal environment for microorganisms to attach and grow into a healthy treating biomass, consuming nutrients from the wastewater. Proven in the treatment of high strength wastewater, the technology has recorded BOD reductions of up to 99% in industrial wastewater.

“As water authorities across the world enforce stricter compliance and higher surcharge fees, the Ultra reduces the nutrient load in wastewater, leading to significant savings in discharge fees and improved environmental operations,” explained Mr West.

Designed as a compact containerized solution, the Ultra is both modular and scalable, making it easy to add more units as wastewater volumes increase or as an ideal performance boost to an existing under-performing WWTP. Onsite deployment is fast, with the Ultra capable of being installed, up and running within 24 hours. Financing options are also available so customers can lease the product with zero capital upfront outlay.

Outlining the company’s product range, Mr West said, “The Ultra is the big brother to our existing BioGill Tower product and opens up our technology to a much broader market, due to the sheer volume of wastewater that the Ultra can handle.”
