Industry innovators bring BioGill wastewater technology to North East USA

Baltimore, Maryland, USA.  For more than sixteen years, Kershner Environmental Technologies (KET), has been building its reputation as tech savvy innovators in the water sector. The company actively searches the globe, seeking out the latest technologies in water treatment systems and solutions. Last year, this search led them to a new biology-based technology known as BioGill. KET is now bringing this cut through technology to the north eastern states of America.

Outlining the company’s business focus, Rob Kershner, President & Sales Engineer, said, “We get really excited about taking cutting edge new processes to the market and were the first in our region to introduce MBBR technology, BioMag, MBR and numerous other concepts, prior to them becoming common processes."

“Now, we’re introducing BioGill, an advanced yet low-cost way to improve wastewater treatment onsite, with minimal operator maintenance and no moving parts!” added Rob.

Microorganisms are Nature’s best recyclers and decomposers and used in most wastewater treatment systems. The BioGill concept is to create the perfect, oxygen rich environment so the microorganisms can perform at their best, consuming pollutants from the wastewater. The breakthrough BioGill Towers are above ground biological bioreactors which are proving particularly effective in reducing soluble nutrients such as BOD, COD and nitrogen.

“I see BioGill fitting into a niche where we can take chunks of BOD out, in an energy efficient and simple way. In fact, BioGill may be the best new way for customers to eliminate the old troublesome rotating reactors, while still keeping much of their existing infrastructure in place,” he explained.

Rob is already predicting that for KET, the largest market potential for BioGill technology in the US will be the replacement of under-performing rotating biological contactors, known as RBCs.

KET is soon to install its first BioGill Towers at a flavourings plant to replace an existing RBC, and at a municipal plant using a small trickling filter facility, to boost treatment performance and nitrification.

“As wastewater restrictions tighten for industry, I know the BioGill technology is something our clients will like hearing about, a cost effective way to upgrade, not replace their existing wastewater plants and boost treatment performance,” added Rob.

Executive Chairman & Founder of BioGill, John West, welcomed KET as its newest Distributor in the USA, saying, “I am impressed by the company’s technical leadership and innovation across the sector and look forward to working together on many successful projects.”
