Global search by CGT leads to BioGill

Busan, South Korea. CGT International (CGT) is a highly experienced wastewater treatment company, specialising in using biological technologies for improving water quality. As part of the company’s drive to be a leader in clean, green, biological technologies, CGT conducted a global search for new, advanced and low energy solutions. This search led to BioGill with CGT now appointed as the BioGill Distributor for South Korea.

“We wanted to find a highly effective biological technology that was energy efficient with a small footprint, as well as easy to install and maintain, and after reviewing several technologies we chose BioGill,” explained Mr Kim, Chief Executive Officer, CGT International.

Key in the decision too was the fact that BioGill bioreactors can easily be combined with many other technologies, creating a highly effective treatment train. CGT is currently installing its first BioGill bioreactors with ARISYS INC., CGT’s first client and contracted installation partner at a flat fish hatchery site. Here the units will be used in a demonstration project for advanced Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS).

BioGill technology improves pond water quality by reducing levels of ammonia and other aquaculture waste products. The technology is built on the premise of harnessing Nature with nano ceramic media, known as “gills”, providing the ideal oxygen rich habitat for microorganisms, Nature’s best recyclers, to grow and flourish. This increases nutrient removal from pond water, resulting in improved water quality, which is essential to achieving successful harvests in aquaculture.

As South Korea has a distinct seafood culture and is amongst the top ten aquaculture producing countries in the world, Mr Kim predicts this will be the first of many BioGill projects in the South Korean aquaculture RAS market.
