Food Industry Wastewater Treatment

BioGill bioreactors are ideal as the aerobic biological process stage of treating wastewaters from commercial kitchens, soft drink and confectionery producers, breweries, wineries, dairies, bakeries and canneries, as well as fruit, vegetable and meat processors.

Major Benefits

  • Effective treatment of high soluble BOD/COD.
  • Low sludge output.
  • Effective removal of fats and oils.
  • Low aerosols.
  • Lower operating costs.

Effective BOD & COD treatment

BioGill bioreactors can effectively reduce the soluble BOD/COD component in nutrient rich waste streams. With the increased oxygen availability and exponentially higher surface area to volume ratio, the bioreactors grow a healthy, active biomass and can develop concentrations of up to 60,000mg/L. This is 10 to 15 times greater and conventional aerobic systems resulting in higher removal rates.

Low sludge

The biomass is in a high oxygen environment. This means that BioGill bioreactors can produce more active, longer living cells resulting in a lower sludge output when compared to other biological and filtration technologies.

Effective removal of fats & oils

Whereas many other systems suffer from fouling of the biomass, BioGill units successfully treat waste streams that contain fats, oils and grease along with other difficult to treat components of wastewaters.

Low aerosols

BioGill systems produce very little aerosols that can cause contamination in the manufacturing process or unpleasant odours.

Lower operating costs

With minimal maintenance required on the treatment cores and lower energy consumption, BioGill bioreactors can reduce overall operating costs.
