Australian Tourist Park

Size: 600 hectares (1500 acres) of bush land, eco-cabins and 300 sites for camping, caravans and motor homes.
Location: Sydney, Australia
System Size: 20,000 litres/ 5,130 gallons per day

The challenge

This tourist park, located in the heart of Sydney, is a world leader in EcoTourism, winning numerous national and international awards for environmental best practice.

One of the many environmental goals at the park is to halve water usage, so an effective grey water treatment and recycling solution, low on energy consumption, was needed.

The solution

The New South Wales Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, commissioned a BioGill system to treat 20,000 litres (5,130 gallons) of wastewater every day from the washing machines, laundries, showers and hand basins. The recycled water is used to flush toilets, water gardens and hose down pathways throughout the park.

The results

Testing by an NATA Approved Testing Laboratory reported a Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)reduction of 98% and a Total Suspended Solids (TSS) reduction of, an average, 90%.
